A POP-UP art collective will be positioned at the Brunel Shopping Centre until Friday evening.

The exhibition, ‘SWiNE’, is a compilation organised by local teens Nina Hamley and James Moss.

Nina said: “We know a lot of people who make art so it seemed like a good idea to do so people can see it.”

It is advertised as a “progressive, high-information gallery loaded with the work of local auteurs; all curated lovingly into a subversive + beautiful, and provocative + sprawling mass of life.”

The exhibit includes a varied assortment of artistic expressions from diverse artists.

James said: “There’s some people from college but some people I’ve met through other things I’ve done – there’s lots of different ages of artists.”

Nina added: “There are interactive things that are good for children, but adult art too.

"There’s a piece where you have instructions on how to build a man inside a box, one that’s kind of a spinning thing and an area with space to draw inside."

James and Nina both have art of their own on display as well, but enjoyed the process of connecting and collecting art from their peers.

Nina said: “Some is from people we know and some is people we don’t know.

“There is some around that’s mine but it’s been more exciting to collect it from other people.”

Some of the art is for sale, though most of it is just for the public consumption.

James said: “We’ve actually had a lot of people inquiring about the art that isn’t for sale. There’s a few pieces that have prices and other bits if people say they’re interested we just let the artist know.”

In addition to the art, the exhibition also has a film section, free live music and zines out for collection for the visitors trafficking through.

James said: “There’s a lot of people coming in. We had 30 zines which we ran out of on the first day, and not everyone took one.”

The two ambitious 19-year-olds have known each other since secondary school and are both studying at the New College Art Foundation.

When asked of their favourite pieces, Nina responded: “I think just a bit of everything, I really like it when there’s more than one part to something, maybe a painting that has mixed media or a film with interesting music.”

The pop-up exhibition is located at the Brunel Shopping Centre next to the Sue Ryder charity shop. It will be open from 9am to 5:30pm until Friday, November 4. More information can be found on the collective’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SWiNEzone/.
