THE Kentwood Christmas Cracker is one of those shows that I look forward to every year. It starts my Christmas season with a bang, and this year was no exception.

With one show starting at 6.30pm, instead of two, meant that the theatre was full.

The show began with the rousing drums and bugles from the AFC Army cadets. Their precision and discipline is second to none.

Kentwood show choir, Sheila Harrod and her band, with guests the Aldbourne Band, then began an evening of Christmas music that was at times uplifting and spiritual. Audience participation was the order of the day.

Kentwood can always be relied upon to give a faultless singing performance. The notes soared to the rafters, and the applause from the audience was appreciative of the exacting music.

Sheila’s band, under the direction of Paul Maguire, added to the experience.

The Aldbourne Band, Kentwood Junior choir and special guests all gave excellent performances.

I’m sure everyone in the audience will have had their favourite moment. For me, strangly, it was Graham Davidson Smith and his tribute to Terry Wogan, with his rendition of The Floral Dance. I have seldom heard it sung so well. And, judging from the cheers, the rest of the audience agreed.

It was lovely to hear the juniors belting out Fame.

The choir, bands, soloists and guests looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying their time on stage.

All in all then, it was an enjoyable evening once again in the company of the Kentwood choir.
