A PENSIONER says he feels like a prisoner in his own home after vandals lobbed stones through his front window twice in a week.

Brian Wills, 80. who lives in Darwin Close, Nythe, saw his front window cracked on Monday night (NOVEMBER 28) by a gang of youths using what he believes to be a slingshot and small stones.

Undeterred, Brian says the youths returned on Wednesday evening and aimed at his window again, leaving him and wife Barbara, 79, shaken.

Brave Brian rushed outside to confront the teenage thugs but said he was met with abuse and laughter from the group of around 12 youths.

“It makes you feel like a prisoner in your own home. I feel every noise I hear I have to go and check outside to make sure it’s not them coming back again,” he said.

Wiltshire Police are investigating the incident along with two similar incidents in nearby Ravenscroft, Covingham which took place on Wednesday.

Brian said he was first alerted to the sounds of people outside his house on Monday by his pet border collie barking.

“She wouldn’t stop barking so I brought her in. But then I was standing by my front window around six, half six, and heard this bang, I had no clue what it was then I saw the window was cracked and looked terrible.

“Then on Wednesday I heard the same thing again. I was very angry. I saw a group of teenagers outside and I went to chase after them but I couldn’t catch them. They were on pushbikes and they just laughed at me. One said he was sorry and made to come over to us but then another lady who said they had smashed her window as well started running after them.

“It’s double glazed so thankfully it isn’t cold in the house but it’s just disgusting that it has been done to us.

“We both feel scared and stressed and worried this will happen again. You should feel safe and comfortable in your own home and we don’t now.”

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We received a report from Mr Wills on Monday.

“We also received two reports on Wednesday November 30 from two separate people in Ravenscroft, Covingham about youths throwing stones at some houses.

“We are investigating this and would urge anyone with any information relating to this or similar incidents in this area to call us on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
