A MOTORIST accused of driving dangerously near the Cotswold Water Park is to face trial by judge and jury.

Darren Kilby, 39, was behind the wheel of a 2004-reg TVR T350C when it was involved in an accident on the A419 on the morning of Tuesday March 1 last year.

Kilby, of Hardwick, Gloucester, pleaded not guilty to a charge of dangerous driving when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

He was heading southbound between Cirencester and Swindon when the incident happened at about 8am. Judge Tim Mousley QC adjourned the case to a trial date to be fixed and released Kilby on unconditional bail until then.

A driver who failed to report a collision in which a woman was hurt was fined £80 by Swindon magistrates.

Robert Ball, 67, of Belsay, Toothill, admitted the offence along with a charge of driving without due car and attention. The court heard the incident happened in the car park of Farm Food in Cheney Manor on June 28 when Ball was driving a Corsa.

A total of five points were added to his licence and he was told to pay a victim surcharge of £30 plus £85 court costs.

Linval Nicholson was told to pay almost £750 in fines and costs by magistrates after he pleaded guilty to charges of driving without a licence, having no insurance and possessing cannabis.

Nicholson, aged 34, of Walter Close, was also banned from driving for nine months.

Mark Brown, 27, of Swan Lane, Faringdon, has been ordered to pay £320 by magistrates after pleaded guilty to a number of charges including criminal damage, assault and threatening behaviour relating to an incident on November 14.

Brown, who appeared before Swindon magistrates, was also handed a community order and must complete 80 hours of unpaid work. He must also adhere to a restraining order.

Swindon magistrates handed a year’s driving ban to Martin Bennett, of Beverley, Toothill, after he admitted being over the alcohol limit when his BMW was stopped in Freshbrook Way on November 12.

Bennett, 57, was fined £250 when he appeared in court on November 30 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £30 victim surcharge.

Damian Ryszard Komorowski, of Groundwell Road, has pleaded guilty to driving without a licence or any insurance on October 4.

Komorowski appeared before magistrates sitting in Swindon where his licence was endorsed with seven points and magistrates also ordered him to pay £265.

A woman who admitted stealing six bottles of spirits from Tesco in Ocotal Way back in September and breaching a community order will be sentenced for the charges this month. 

Lexi Taylor, of The Butts, Chippenham, was unable to appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court last month as she was in hospital at the time but the 38-year-old will instead have to reappear for sentencing which has been adjourned until January 9. She remains on conditional bail until that date.

Dragos Revnic, 30, was fined £346 and banned from driving for 20 months by Swindon magistrates after he pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

The court heard he had 69 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath when he drove on Highworth Road on November 13 – almost twice the legal limit. Revnic, aged 30, of County Road, was also told to pay £85 court costs.

William McCurrach was handed a year-long driving ban after he was caught driving his Honda Civic in Great Western Way with a level of 7.8 micrograms of cannabis in his blood.

Swindon magistrates also fined him £200 when he appeared before them on November 30 and admitted the charge.

McCurrach, 27, of Wynwards Road, Abbey Meads, was also told to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Driving after drinking double the alcohol limit cost Joseph Tearall a 20-month driving ban and almost £370 costs and a fine.

Swindon magistrates imposed the penalty after hearing Tearall, 20, of Argyle Street, had a level of 87 microgramsof alcohol in his breath when his VW Polo was stopped in Dudmore Road.

He was fined £253 with £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £30.
