A HELICOPTER rescue mission and a flight through the Welsh valleys form part of the virtual realities a Swindon company will debut at one of the world’s biggest technology shows this week.

CGI, animation and 3D experts Rendermedia, based in Hargreaves Road, will see three of their virtual reality experiences showcased on the HTC stand at CES 2017 held in glittering Las Vegas.

The event is one of the biggest technology shows in the world with some 170,000 visitors expected.

Visitors to virtual reality booths at the show will be able to immerse themselves in a helicopter rescue mission following an earthquake, flying an Airbus A400M close to the ground through the Welsh Valleys and landing an Airbus A350 at an airport in Asia. All the experiences were created for Airbus.

Husband-and-wife team Mark and Nadine Miles launched Rendermedia five years ago and the company has already been making its mark in the world of virtual reality.

The invitation to Las Vegas follows a successful appearance at Berlin’s ILA Air Show and an exhibition in Farnborough.

Founder Mark said he couldn’t believe that Rendermedia was about to make an appearance on the world stage

“It’s the biggest consumer electronics show in the world so to be given an opportunity like this is so unexpected and amazing at the same time,” he said.

“When people are at the cinema, they are watching outside the experience. With VR you are part of that experience, it comes to life.

“It really has taken off. When I heard the news I think I froze for a couple of days. It was such a huge achievement for us and we are very excited about taking the trip and seeing what the visitors make of the experiences.

The Rendermedia team, who built a record seven experiences in seven weeks, are also attracting attention from Fujitsu and Intel.

“I’ve worked in 3D and animation for more than 20 years and it is constantly growing and evolving,” said Mark.

“People are seeing how it can be used in marketing and to allow clients a glimpse into a different world. “It is a really exciting time for the industry and for us because we seem to have capitalised on that.”

The four-day CES 2017 convention brings together some of the biggest names in the industry, including Sony and Samsung, alongside hundreds of start-ups to display and discuss the next generation of products and preview them to the public.
