A YO-YO dieter who wanted to get healthy has seen her fat-fighting mission reap rewards after losing over five stone and being crowned Slimming World’s Miss Slinky for her weight loss efforts.

Summer Franklin, who lives in Coleview, only joined Greenbridge’s Slimming World group 12 months ago but since then the 22-year-old has gone on to lost 5st 10lb.

Now, she has been recognised as outstanding by fellow members who voted for her to be crowned Greenbridge Slimming World group’s Miss Slinky 2016 after they were wowed by her weight loss transformation.

“It is nice ending the year being told I was Miss Slinky because I didn’t expect it,” Summer said.

“Lots of people who say they have lost weight have used Slimming World so that is why I wanted to get involved. You can eat healthy and maintain your weight and that is what is important to me. I didn’t want a fad diet to lose the eight and then pile it back on but with Slimming World it has been really steady in losing the weight.

“I was a massive yo-yo dieter and I always used to look for a quick fix but Slimming World is the only one I have managed to stick to for a long time.”

The Miss Slinky title is given to members who have transformed their bodies both inside and out by becoming healthier and happier, slimmer and more confident.

Summer, who is studying criminology at the University of the West of England, said while she doesn’t have a set target weight, she instead wants the weight loss to make her feel healthy.

“I wanted to get healthier and be more educated about food and learn how to cook really,” the student added.

“One thing I’ve learnt at Slimming World is about the way I cook. Slimming World has taught me to substitute a few things in the way I cook simple things like spaghetti bolognese. I have switched from buying a jar of sauce to actually making it myself. I don’t think you realise what is in the ingredients of what you use so it is good to know exactly what you are putting in your food.

“Changing your lifestyle and eating habits is difficult and in general I wouldn’t say it is easy but it is a good plan to stick to because you can have things you fancy every so often.

“I don’t have a set target weight, I just want to feel healthy.

“The group might be a commitment but it is definitely worth it and it helps to plan ahead.

“You start to notice the results almost immediately in the way you feel and when I started off, I lost weight quite quickly. If you stick to the plan 100 per cent then you will definitely see results.”

Nas Orchard, 57, lost just over a stone and was named the group’s Mr Sleek 2016.

Anyone interested in joining the Greenbridge Slimming World Group can meet members at the Rugby Club every Friday at 9.30am or 11.30am or call 07897340665.
