WORLD champion boxer Joe Calzaghe has pledged his support to help raise money for Jamie Mines over the weekend after hearing about the tragic story of the Swindon dad.

In a video posted on social media, the Welsh boxer said: “Jamie has had a terrible accident and so I am going to donate a pair of signed boxing gloves and boxing shorts to raise money for him. It is a great cause so everyone dig deep and give all you can and God bless.”

Jamie, 33, suffered an electric shock in the accident in Galton Way on December 19 and since then, he has remained in a critical condition in hospital in Bristol, where he is in an induced coma.

The dad of five-month-old twin girls had to have one leg and part of both his arms amputated.

A Go Fund Me page has raised more than half the £100,000 target and over the weekend an auction was held back in Jamie’s hometown Frome to add to the money pot.

Jamie’s brother Ben said: “He is still in intensive care where they are continuing to monitor the effects of the burns on his body.

"The medical team are impressed with his progress, but continually remind us that we do not yet know what the full outcome will be. He is definitely fighting hard.”

Jamie moved to Swindon a year ago and it is understood Jamie was working for Boundary Scaffolding at the time of the accident and the Health And Safety Executive is investigating the matter.
