THE Rolleston Arms is set for a fundraising extravaganza next month as it hosts a rock night to bring in cash for Swindon Carers’ Centre.

The Commercial Road pub will host a string of local live acts and is expecting almost 200 people to attend on Wednesday, February 15, from 5pm.

Teri Farthing, 17, who has been involved with the carers’ centre for five years, said: “The idea came from the Swindon Young Carers who have done fundraisers like this in the past and decided to do another one this year – only we wanted to make it even bigger this time.

“We are hoping for a big turnout. So far we have about 150 people coming and the tickets are still selling really well. It should be a brilliant night, we are all really looking forward to it.”

Some of the young carers had been on the National Citizenship Service programme last year, which offers 15 to 17-year-olds the chance to develop a range of valuable life skills.

They had taken part in various fundraising activities and wanted to continue.

Bands taking part include four-piece pop/punk outfit Post12, teen rockers The Overload, and another popular punk four-piece, Melophobia, as well as many more.

Teri said: “Everyone at the Rolleston has been so supportive. They have helped us to plan the event and we are really grateful for all they have done – they have been brilliant.”

The carers have been preparing for the big show over Christmas by selling tickets and making banners but they could still use a few volunteers to help with last minute preparations. Email youngcarersfundraiser@gmail.com

Tickets cost £2 for under-18s, £3 for over-18s or £5 in advance or on the door.
