A MAINTENANCE manager said he has had enough after his van was targeted numerous times by a thief who took £5,000 worth of tools and was captured on CCTV.

Tony McGill, who lives in Augusta Close, Redhouse, saw his Vauxhall Vivaro van broken into in August last year with the thief making off with DeWalt tool kits worth an estimated £2,000.

To keep his property safe, Tony installed CCTV to cover his driveway but the thief was undeterred and returned in November to swipe yet more tools from the back of Tony’s new Ford Transit.

Tony said his CCTV had caught the same person prowling around his van in the early hours of this morning on numerous occasions since, with the latest sighting on Sunday.

Tony, 55, said the thefts posed a threat to his business.

“I believe it is the same person and it makes me really mad. I cannot believe it has happened so many times,” he said.

“My partner Sharon is devastated by this as am I. At the end of the day it’s my livelihood and I’m having to fork out thousands of pounds of my own money to replace equipment which some low-life has taken from me. I want them caught

“I am really angry that this person has broken into my van twice. Every night I am wondering whether they are going to come back around and then every morning I am checking to see if my van has been damaged or broken into again.

"I want this person caught and for them to face the consequences. I’ve had enough now.”

Tony said he believes the thief used a sophisticated key scanning device, which picks up the code from an automatic locking system, allowing criminals to bypass car security and break-in.

“It baffled me because I didn’t know how a thief could get into a secure, locked vehicle," he said.

"I even changed my van to what I thought was a safer model to make sure this didn’t happen again. It’s very frustrating and I don’t want this person to come round here again.”

A Wiltshire Police spokesman confirmed that incidents in August 2016 and November 2016 when tools and power tools were taken from a van in Augusta Close were investigated.
