THE manager of the Orbital Shopping Park has proudly showcased the centre’s state-of-the-art adult disabled changing facility, one of the only rooms of its kind in Swindon.
Centre manager Jamie Turner yesterday met with North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson to demonstrate the room’s unique features and to encourage people to use it.
Mr Turner said: “The adult changing facility has been in place since May after it was suggested that we should have a disabled changing room because there wasn’t one available.
“It’s a very well used room and we implore people to use it.
“I think every retail outlet should have this sort of facility on board. We have had a hugely positive response from people already, it certainly has been welcomed.”
The room boasts a height adjustable sink and a full-size, fold-up adult changing bed. There is also a privacy screen and an adjustable hoist to lift people from the toilet seat to the bed.
Former disabilities minister Mr Tomlinson, in whose office building the changing room is located, said: “This is hugely important. During my time as minster for disabled people I was lobbied repeatedly over the lack of disabled facilities, and this is a huge boost to a busy retail area. It is a valuable addition to the Orbital Shopping Park.”
