A MAN aged 60 died when his Land Rover was hit by a train between Swindon and Gloucester this afternoon.
It is thought the Land Rover was hit at a level crossing at Frampton Mansell in Gloucestershire at about 3pm.
British Transport Police were called at 3.10pm and officers with South Western Ambulance Service paramedics dashed to the scene.
"A man, believed to be the driver of the car, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family," said a BTP spokesman.
"The car was struck by the Great Western Railway’s London Paddington to Cheltenham Spa service. There are no other reported injuries.
"At present, officers are currently examining the scene to establish the circumstances which led to the man’s car being struck."
As this incident is likely to cause disruption into the evening, passengers are asked to check with National Rail Enquiries and Great Western Railways before travelling.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been notified of the incident.

A spokesman for GWR said: "Following an incident at a level crossing near Kemble, we are currently unable to operate services between Gloucester and Swindon.
“The 13.36 Paddington to Cheltenham service was involved with a collision with a vehicle at Frampton Mansell level crossing near Kemble. British Transport Police have confirmed that a man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, has unfortunately died at the scene.
“We are thankful that no injuries have been reported from passengers or staff board the train, and are working with the British Transport Police, and other relevant authorities, to understand the full circumstances of the incident as quickly as possible.”
Due to an incident at a level crossing the lines between Swindon and Gloucester are currently closed.

A spokesman for National Rail Enquiries said: "A collision at a level crossing between Swindon and Gloucester means that trains are currently unable to run between these stations. This is expected to continue until approximately 17.15.
"Buses have been requested and are expected at Swindon at 4pm and Gloucester at 4.15pm.
"You may use your ticket on CrossCountry services between Cheltenham Spa and Bristol Temple Meads."
