BIG MACS, milkshakes and chicken wraps flew out the door as the relaunched McDonald’s opened yesterday.

Following a five-week transformation, the Brunel Centre branch of the fast food chain opened its doors to reveal its bright new design.

The Brunel restaurant is only one of a handful of McDonald’s outlets to be selected for the Alphabet scheme which sees it revamped to give it more of a welcoming café bistro feel.

And crowds were lovin’ it as queued up to order from the new computer kiosks, where the whole of the menu can be accessed with a swipe of the screen, with nutritional information also displayed.

Once customers have ordered they can pay with card, and go to a designated area of the counter to pick up their food.

The kitchen has also been redesigned with all orders freshly prepared.

Free to use tablets are also at some tables for customers to use.

Franchisee Carl Room said he was delighted with the store’s success

“For the first time we are able to give people the opportunity to have a complete look at the menu in front of them so they can think about what they are ordering.

“It will be a godsend for busy families as all the kids can get involved.

We’re thrilled with the transformation because we’re committed to offering our customers’ more choice and fast service.

“Technology has a huge role to play in all walks of life, including our customers’ eating out experience, so the new tech we’ve introduced recognises the way people live their lives today.

“The response to the changes from my team has been very positive and they are enjoying the new ways of working to ensure we continue to create an outstanding customer experience,

“It’s about making it more a café or bistro type experience. I feel very proud when I walk in the front door. It is a beacon of light in the Brunel Centre.”

Upstairs has been expanded to include a mezzanine seating area and additional tables.

The store has boosted employment with 10 new jobs have been created.

South Swindon MP Robert Buckland who was treated to a tour of the store and a Big Mac meal said:

“I was delighted to visit McDonald’s franchisee, Carl Room and his staff for a guided tour round the newly refurbished restaurant in Swindon Brunel Centre. McDonald’s makes a huge and positive contribution to the local community and everyone is really excited about the new digital changes.”

The team have big plans to regenerate the menu with a new line of ‘signature’ beef and frozen drinks expected to debut at the store later this year.
