FIREFIGHTERS and paramedics rushed to the scene of a crash involving multiple vehicles this afternoon.

The incident happened at the North Swindon end of Thamesdown Drive near to the Harvester pub at around 3pm.

Witnesses reported that firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free a person trapped in one of the vehicles.

Police officers blocked off part of the road while crews from the other emergency services worked around the wreckage.

Wiltshire Police and the South Western Ambulance Service have been approached for a comment.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Swindon and Stratton were mobilised to a road traffic collision on Thamesdown Drive. Upon arrival it was confirmed to be a road traffic collision involving two vehicles, one female was trapped and released using hydraulic cutting equipment and conveyed to hospital by ambulance."
