FAILING to score against Oldham Athletic was a real body blow to the players according to full-back Bradley Barry.

The dejection was visible when the final whistle blew at the County Ground on Saturday, with several slumping to the ground from the spot they were standing in when referee Robert Lewis brought proceedings to an end.

However, it was not the disappointment of another crushing defeat that had Town’s players out on their feet, but more the knowing of what could have been in a game in which they dominated, particularly in the first half.

Town recorded 17 shots in that period, with six on target, but were unable to make it count as they had to settle for a point in their relegation battle.

“It was a disappointing one, we wanted to take all three points because we deserved it,” said Barry following the goalless draw with Oldham Athletic.

“It’s one of those things, when you’re in mid-table, they fly in and you’ll come away with a 3-0 win but when you’re down there, sometimes it’s the way it ends up.

“We look at it as a positive. There’s some things to work on but it’s very frustrating.

“The boys are down in the dumps but we have just got to keep going.

“It’s a lot better than last week. We dominated the play so it’s another positive and we want to push it home and put teams to bed.

Barry returned from an ankle injury that had kept him out since the draw with Shrewsbury Town at the beginning of January to start on Saturday.

And despite admitting that the open stages were tough, performed well in his first 90 minutes back and almost set up the winner in the second half when his cross found Nicky Ajose in the six-yard box, only for the forward to scoop his effort over the bar.

“I felt more than comfortable,” he added, reflecting on his fitness.

“For the first 15 minutes, I was thinking, ‘I can feel it here’ but once you get past that stage, it’s about focussing and I felt really good.

“Nicky was asking me during the week if I was going to set him up and I said I would try my best,”

“It just hasn’t fallen for him. It’s a hard one as well because he has got two players in front of him but he has done well to get something on it.”
