A SWINDON primary school has been showered with praised by the minister for schools after being placed in the country’s top two per cent for attainment in maths.

MP Nick Gibb sent a letter of commendation to Chiseldon Primary School’s head teacher Spencer Allen in recognition of the school’s impressive achievement.

Mr Gibb said: “I would like to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils for the very high standard that pupils in your school have achieved in mathematics in the 2016 Key Stage 2 assessments.

“Your school’s results, as published on December 15, show that 100 per cent of your pupils reached or exceeded the expected standard in mathematics at the end of Key Stage 2. This means that your school is in the top two per cent of primary schools in England for attainment in mathematics.”

It is the first time the school has registered a 100 per cent success rate in maths and Mr Allen says he is very proud of his hardworking staff and pupils alike.

He said: “This is fantastic news. The new standards are extremely difficult and our children have worked extremely hard to achieve these wonderful results.

“As headteacher, I am over the moon at the dedication and commitment of my staff and school in making sure that our pupils continue to be the best they can be.

“The commitment the children have shown towards their learning has been astonishing, as has the dedication of staff to make sure the children achieve their best in all subjects, especially in maths.”

Although a 100 per cent attainment score is hard to beat, Mr Allen stressed that the focus will now be placed on making sure pupils master the subject.

“We can still aim for a greater depth of knowledge and understanding and for more pupils to achieve to results,” he said.

Mr Gibb, who last month visited schools all over Swindon, told Mr Allen: “Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards and congratulations again to you and your staff for all you have achieved.”
