This is the terrifying moment a masked man threatened staff in West Swindon bookies on Tuesday, demanding they hand over cash.

Now Wiltshire Police is appealing for witnesses after the attempted robbery at William Hill bookmakers on Shearwood Road in Peatmoor.

The incident took place at around 12.45pm yesterday (Tuesday, February 22) when a man wearing dark clothing with the hood up and his face covered entered the shop and threatened staff, demanding they hand over money.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the staff they were able to lock themselves in a safe area of the shop and the suspect left empty handed.

Officers investigating the matter have now released a CCTV still of a man tthey would like to speak to in relation to this offence.

Det Sgt Graham McLaughlin said: "The investigating team would really like to hear from anyone in the area at the time who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

Also, we'd like to hear from anyone with a dash-cam fitted to their car and who was driving through that area at that time - you may have picked up some vital evidence; please check and let us know."
