Crowd-funding is not just a buzz word in the corporate community, it can kickstart the dreams of musicians.

Desert Mountain Tribe, a psychedelic rock band based in London, are funding a United States tour through Pledge Music campaign.

As a warm-up gig to their North American tour the trio are heading for Swindon on Friday, February 24. The gig has been organised by Swindon's PigHill Promotions.

Duncan Robinson said: "We have put a lot of effort into building relationships with bands, managers and booking agents, so that we can sell Swindon to the sort of breakthrough acts that are on the verge of becoming 'the next big thing'.

"Desert Mountain Tribe is the first act we have confirmed this year, more will follow, but it is all about little strides."

Desert Mountain Tribe are Jonty Balls from South London, singer and guitarist, Felix and Philipp Jaun, from Cologne who play bass and drums.

The trio began as a five piece under the name Young Men Dead, but in 2012 broke away to form their own psych rock band.

The musicians consciously chose to take the psych road after hearing The Black Angels, and secured support slots with Toy, Wovenhand, The Wytches and Damo Suzuki. They released their debut EP in 2014, and recorded it in Oxfordshire, where Brett Orrison from The Black Angels mastered the record. Take A Ride, the lead track, got airplay on BBC 6Music and the boys scooped a record label deal. Their debut album on the Membran label, Either That Or The Moon, was released last year.

Sell out shows in London and Rotterdam won them an army of fans, and performing at Rockaway Beach on the same stage as Saint Etienne, Suede and Killing Joke resulted in an invitation to play the South by South West Festival in Austin Texas, USA. The Pledge Music campaign is to get them there.

Matt Chipperfield from PigHill said: "How incredible would it be for Swindon folk to have a hand in helping a new band on their road to success? The payback would be a lasting relationship between the band and our town, and they are far more likely to come back to play again as a thank you."

Desert Mountain Tribe are playing at The Vic, Victoria Road in Old Town, Swindon, from 8pm and tickets are £6 in advance or £7 on the door; pighillpromotions.com/tickets or www.seetickets.com/tour/desert-mountain-tribe.
