DETECTIVES have launched an investigation following an attempted robbery at an Old Town bookmakers.

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident which too place at the Devizes Road branch of Betfred last Friday, February 17.

At around 6.50pm, a male entered the store threatening staff and demanding money.

No cash was handed over and the unknown suspect left the shop empty handed before fleeing from the scene.

The would-be robber is described as white, 5ft 10" tall, of slight build with blue or green eyes.

He spoke with a 'local accent'.

His face was covered with a multi-coloured scarf and he was wearing a khaki green Parka-style jacket with a fur lined hood worn up.

Detective Constable Tom Turner, of Wiltshire Police, said: "We would like to speak to anyone who was in this area around this time.

"Old Town is a busy area, especially on a Friday evening.

"Someone must have seen or heard something; either someone acting suspiciously or some sort of suspicious activity, perhaps someone running away from this shop?"
