A DOZEN cars have been broken into in Royal Wootton Bassett over the space of two weeks.

Residents have been warned to be on the alert following the spate, which started on February 10 and which has seen cash, a sat nav and vehicle documents stolen. “We are not trying to frighten our community by releasing this information. We are sharing that we currently have this issue and are informing our community of how best to protect themselves,” said Wiltshire Police.

Officers are following up different lines of inquiry including CCTV.

Among the thefts were cash taken from two insecure cars in Dunnington Road over night between Sunday and Monday, CDs and money stolen from two unlocked cars in Marlborough Road on the same night. Two locked cars parked in Badger Close were broken into overnight between Friday and Saturday as a Tom Tom sat nav, cash and vehicle documents were taken. More cars, some of them left unlocked, were also targeted in Station Road, Otter Way, Glebe Road, Draymans Court and Roebuck Close, but nothing was taken.
