SWINDON families are being invited to a flavour-filled taste of the east this month when local businesses come together for the third year to raise awareness for kidney donation.

The event promotes non-directed kidney donation (the act of a healthy living person donating a kidney to someone in need of one).

East Meets West takes place on Friday, March 10 at the Supermarine Sports and Social Club and is hosted by Swindon businesses The Sales and Marketing Hub and Kam’s Motor Clinic. It aims to raise funding and awareness for national charity Give a Kidney and also support World Kidney Day on March 9.

Ticket-holders will be able to dance the night away with family and friends. DJ Gamma will be playing floor-filling tunes from Bhangra to Bollywood, from the 70s to the present, and a delicious hot Punjabi buffet is included in the ticket price. There is also a licensed bar on premises. Song requests are welcome in advance.

The event is supported by: Asset Guardian Company, BNI, Castles Estate Agents, CentraHeat Heating and Plumbing, Digital Trading, Explore World, Ideal Displays, Kam’s Motor Clinic, MLL Print and Digital, Redhead PR, The Sales and Marketing Hub Limited and Utility Warehouse.

A raffle draw will be held on the night and any generous raffle prize donations are welcome.

Jasie Rai, director of the sales and marketing hub who has organised the events, said: “I have already had one kidney removed and because of my condition, I am likely to need a kidney in the future, perhaps in the next five years.

“I want to turn my negative health situation into something positive for as long as I can.

“A kidney transplant in the future would be the greatest gift I could wish for. As someone who is more of a giver than a receiver the idea of receiving such a gift is something extremely difficult to come to terms with.

“I love getting people together and, being of a multicultural background, feel this is a great way to celebrate, fundraise and bring great people together.

“Our previous sell-out events have been extremely popular and have raised more than £5,000 for Give a Kidney, plus additional matched funding from Barclays Bank.”

Tickets for this year’s event are now on sale from Jasie Rai on 07771 556185 or for more information email eastmeetswestswin@btinternet.com.

We would be delighted to welcome friends new and old!”

Jan Shorrock, Executive Officer of Give a Kidney said: “As a small charity we are extremely grateful to Jasie and to everyone who makes these events such a success. There are currently more than 5o00 people on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in the UK, and around 250 people died each year in need of a kidney transplant. Humans only need one kidney so if more healthy people came forward to give theirs, more lives could be saved. In the UK more than 500 people have donated a kidney to someone they do not know and we hope to encourage more people to consider sharing their spare!

The event takes place on Friday 10 March from 6.30pm to 11.30pm at the Supermarine Sports and Social Club, South Marston, Swindon.

Tickets are £15.00 Adult, £5.00 Child/Under 14, Under 5s free. No tickets sold on the door.
