A SEASONED dancer will be helping out Brighter Futures as he hosts a rock ’n’ roll party night in May.

Gordon Timms, 78, runs his own entertainment business, Stardust Dance, which puts on musical extravaganzas to raise funds for various charities.

And on Saturday, May 6, Gordon will host a big band rock ‘n’ roll night at the Supermarine Rugby Club, with every penny raised going straight to Brighter Futures.

Gordon, who has been a keen dancer since the age of 14, said: “I’m really looking forward to the show in May and I’m hoping to get as many people along as possible.”

Former driving instructor Gordon started Stardust Dance in 2011 after he retired.

He had spent many years organising socials and charity events, and he saw the new venture as a great way to use his well-honed organisation skills.

In the past he has raised funds for the British Heart Foundation, Macmillan and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

But now he has decided to turn his attention to ensuring Swindon gets its own radiotherapy unit.

Gordon, who lives near the County Ground, said: “My wife and I have friends who have suffered with cancer and we know people who have had to travel to Oxford for treatment.

“We felt this year that we needed to help out and raise as much money as we can for them.

“I wanted to concentrate on the hospital because it’s more local and much closer to home. It’s absolutely vital at the moment that we get a radiotherapy unit in Swindon.”

Gordon has been a huge fan of 1940s and ‘50s big band music for years and he says engaging in his passion while raising cash for a good cause makes him very happy.
