A TEENAGE girl drunkenly bit a security guard and racially abused a supermarket worker after consuming a large quantity of cider, a court heard.

The 14-year-old girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons was just 13 at the time of the offences, Swindon Magistrates Court heard.

Police were called to Tesco, Ocotal Way just before 1am on October 22 last year to reports of three teenage girls being abusive to staff with reports of spitting on the floor and racist abuse.

Prosecutor Keith Ballinger said the girls had upset staff by shouting and swearing on the 1st floor of the supermarket.

The girl had racially abused a shop worker and all three were asked to leave the store.

Mr Ballinger said: “When staff confronted them they ran up and down the travelator. They were shouting and swearing over the store microphone.

“One of the girls said to the security guard, I’m going to bite you and bit him on the arm. She later said she was drunk and that the security guard had put her in a headlock.

“She said she was drunk and had eaten some grapes, some chocolate and had had some alcohol which she hadn’t paid for."

The girl pleaded guilty to assaulting the security guard, stealing goods worth £2 from Tesco’s and using abusive and threatening language to the supermarket employee.

She denied the abuse was racially motivated but was found guilty of the offence at a trial.

The court heard the three girls had consumed a large cider bottle between them.

The girl, who has no previous convictions, said she ‘felt terrible’ for her actions.

The court heard the girl’s behaviour at home had improved, and she had not drunk alcohol since.

Defending, Mark Glendenning said: “She accepts what she has done and she has learnt her lesson.

“This is an abject lesson in choosing your friends carefully. She acted appallingly. She said she assaulted the security guard because he had her in a headlock. She accepts that she used unpleasant language in a public place. She has learned a lesson from that mistake.”

Chairman of the bench Janet Morgan sentenced the girl to take part in three programmes designed to help her stay out of trouble as well as a four-month youth rehabilitation order with supervision.

She said: “You made a very stupid mistake here. Hopefully this will be the last time we ever see you in here.

“If you do not comply with the order you will be back in court in a different way

“You will pay compensation of £100, £50 to each victim and costs of £100 meaning you will pay £200 which your poor mum will have to pay.”
