THE legacy of popular Swindon woman Sabrina Moccia will live on next weekend as the second Sabrina's Mile will be held to raise money to help diabetics in the town.

Sabrina tragically died aged 33 in January last year in what was first believed to be a cardiac arrest. But in the weeks that followed, her family were informed that her death arose from complications with her diabetes.

After holding the first Sabrina's Mile last March at Coate Water, where thousands of pounds was raised, Sabrina's friends and family will gather again next Saturday for what has become an annual event.

Her family now hope to raise even more money to fund one of their projects is to help support the growing number of children in Swindon with Type 1 diabetes.

The charity, which was set up in Sabrina's honour, has already helped fund a Doppler foot scanner, a nurse certification at Carfax Clinic, a year's Swift Food Course at Great Western Hospital to help newly diagnosed patients learn how to eat healthily and support a public information evening.

Before her tragic death, Sabrina had previously worked at the Swindon Advertiser but later became a motivational coach at Swindon's Shaw Trust helping disabled people to find work.

Former colleague Ray Dawson said: "As an employment coach she used it to inspire and encourage her clients who often had to overcome challenges and difficulties in their lives and Sabrina always went the extra mile to help them achieve their goals. So we wondered if people would do a mile for Sabrina and that is where the idea of Sabrina's Mile was born.

"Not everyone can do a marathon but most of us can do a mile. Will you come along and do a mile to help people with diabetes right here in Swindon?"

The walk starts at 10am next Saturday at Coate Water Park.
