Mark Chadwick, from The Levellers, is heading for Swindon this weekend. Mark is one of the founder members of the folk rock band who began in the 1980s, when guitarist Mark met singer Jeremy Cunningham in a pub in Brighton.
The musicians found it was not only music they had in common but left wing politics, and the foundations of The Levellers were formed. Thanks to their political beliefs they named themselves after the radical democratic party which began in the English Civil War.
It was the band's second album Levelling The Land which turned them into a household name, reaching number 14 in the album charts. The album included tracks which are now regarded as punk rock classics: Liberty Song and Battle of the Beanfield.
Throughout the 1990s The Levellers popularity grew and they are still regular performers at Glastonbury festival.
Tomorrow, Saturday, March 25, singer/songwriter Mark will be playing from 7pm, at Level 3, 73 Commercial Road, Swindon. Tickets are £10 from 01793 534238. - Flicky Harrison
