The owners of Hodson’s popular Calley Arms have presented a cheque to Prospect Hospice for £1,662 from funds raised by their popular monthly quiz night. Sally and Jason Hillier, who took over the pub eighteen months ago, instigated the quiz nights soon after they took over, and they were thrilled to be able to support their local hospice through the popular monthly activity.

“The quizzes have gone down really well with our regulars – in fact, we always have a full number of teams taking part,” says Sally. “Its a fun evening too, because no one takes it too seriously, and no one gets too upset if they don’t win. More often than not, the winning team put their winnings back into the pot, It’s a lovely evening and we and our regulars look forward to it every month.”

The motivation for Sally and Jason was personal when they introduced the pub quiz. “We know of the work that Prospect Hospice does through the care that they have provided for family members in the past,” says Sally. “It’s a very worthwhile cause for us and it’s nice for us to be in a position to put something back.”

Genevieve Arney, Events and Community Manager at Prospect Hospice, said: “We are very appreciative of the support that we receive from Sally, Jason and everyone at the Calley Arms, and £1,662 is a fantastic amount for them to have raised towards our care. We’ve even been along as a team and taken part in the quiz and all had such a great time.”

She added: “We have put together a new quiz pack, with ten rounds of questions and answers to help make it really easy for pubs, or anyone else who wants to put on their own quiz. We can even offer a Prospect volunteer to call the quiz for you. We would love to hear from pubs who want our help in running quizzes on 01793 816161 or by emailing fundraising&events@prospect-hospice.net “
