COURT: Wayne Mulhall has been jailed for 20 weeks after he admitted assaulting a woman by beating.

Magistrates said the 34-year-old of Manchester Road had carried out a "sustained and terrifying attack" on the "vulnerable" victim on Saturday March 4, leading the victim to fear for her life. They said the offence was aggravated as it had been carried out in front of a child. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

COURT: Neil Webdell will stand trial later this month accused of imprisoning a woman and causing her actual bodily harm. The 47-year-old of Trent Road will appear at Swindon Crown Court on April 21 to face the charges dating between December 17 of last year and January 3 of this year. He was released on conditional bail not to contact the alleged victim or two other named individuals or to go to two specified addresses.

COURT: Dale Gough has been fined £300 and banned from driving for a year after he was caught driving while over the drug drive limit.

The 21-year-old of Swindon Road, Stratton St Margaret, pleaded guilty to having 2mcgs of cannabis in a litre of his blood - exceeding the limit by 0.7mcgs - while behind the wheel of an 08-plate Mini Cooper on Ermin Street on January 8. He must also pay a £30 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

COURT: Amin Jama has been ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work after he was caught in possession of a Tazer.

The 20-year-old Drakes Way resident must also pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and an £85 victim surcharge. They also ordered the Tazer be destroyed.

COURT: Aisha Murfin has been ordered to pay £50 compensation to a police officer after she pleaded guilty to assaulting him.

Magistrates imposed a one year conditional discharge on the 24-year-old of Galsworthy Close.

COURT: Paul Pearson has been fined £900 and banned from the roads for a year after he was caught over the drink drive limit.

The 38-year-old of Sanders Close was stopped on Great Western Way on March 3 while behind the wheel of a brand new BMW 440. Officers discovered he had 43mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of his breath. The legal driving limit is 35mcgs. His ban will be reduced by three months if he completes a drink drivers' awareness course. He must also pay a £90 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

COURT: Daniel Greenough,21, has been fined £260 and banned from driving after he was caught at more than double the drug drive limit.

Magistrates sitting in Swindon heard that the Medgbury Road resident had 4.8mcgs of cannabis in a litre of his blood when he was stopped on Swindon Road on December 29. The legal driving limit for cannabis is 2mcgs, to take into account the possibility of passive smoking. The driver of the 54-plate Mazda 6 must also pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £30 victim surcharge. They made no separate penalty for a charge of being in possession of cannabis on the same date.

COURT: Hosea Stewart will be sentenced next week after admitting five charges of alcohol theft.

The 53-year-old of Beaulieu Close admitted stealing eight bottles of Champagne valued at £340 from John Lewis with another man on Christmas Eve, £625-worth of Champagne from John Lewis on January 14, a further 11 bottles valued at £251 from the same store on January 19, 11 bottles with another man on January 21 and two bottles of brandy from M&S on February 2. He was released on conditional bail not to enter any John Lewis or M&S store and is due to be sentenced on April 11.

COURT: Matthew Donkin has been fined £120 and disqualified from driving for a year after he was caught with 3mcgs of cannabis in his system while behind the wheel of a 57-plate Vauxhall Astra.

The legal driving limit is 2mcgs. He must also pay a £30 victim surcharge along with £85 court costs.

COURT: Nathan Formoy has been curfewed for eight weeks after he admitted stealing a £369 Samsung TV from the Co-op on December 3 of last year.

The curfew, which will be monitored with an electronic tag, will see the 42-year-old of Avening Street, Gorse Hill, behind closed doors between 7pm and 7am. He must also pay £369 compensation. He was further fined £50 for committing the crime while on a suspended prison sentence imposed for charges of theft and possession of a bladed article in February of last year.

COURT: Tracy Griffin has been fined £100 for stealing £226-worth of children's clothing from M&S on March 2.

The 45-year-old of Rutland Road must also pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

COURT: Toby Murrell has been ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work after he took a 53-plate Peugeot 206 without the owner's consent.

The 22-year-old of Blackthorn Close, Royal Wootton Bassett, drove the car on Tewkesbury Way despite not having insurance or a licence. He was further found to be in possession of cannabis when stopped by the police. He was fined £100 and had six penalty points added to his provisional drivers' licence. He must also pay a victim surcharge of £85 along with £85 court costs.

COURT: Lloyd Pereira has been banned from driving for three years after being caught at more than double the drink drive limit.

The 25-year-old of Shaftesbury Avenue, Park South, pleaded guilty to the offence dating from March 5 when he drove an 05-plate vehicle at Greenbridge Retail Park with 79mcgs of alchol in 100ml of his breath. The legal driving limit is 35mcgs. He was fined £150, ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service along with his ban. He was not offered the chance of completing a drink drivers' awareness course as this was his second offence in ten years.

COURT: Adam Smart must pay £250 compensation to another man after he was convicted of assault by beating.

The 22-year-old of Pasteur Drive admitted the offence from December 17, and mist also complete 100 hours of unpaid work, as well as pay £85 court costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

COURT: Oskar Pietka has been fined £320 after he was caught driving a 62-plate Orion Moped on Fleming Way on October 23 without insurance, or a full licence.

The 18-year-old of Clifton Street was slapped with six penalty points on his provisional licence and he must also pay a £32 victim surcharge along with £85 court costs.

COURT: John Stanley has been fined £230 after he damaged an 07-plate Chevrolet Kalos on March 5.

The 23-year-old of Hathaway Road must also pay a victim surcharge of £30 and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

COURT: Michael Wright will stand trial later this year accused of two racially aggravated offences dating from October of last year.

The 61-year-old of Bourne Road denies both charges which allege he used threatening behaviour towards another individual. He was released on unconditional bail until his trial at Chippenham Magistrates' Court on May 18.
