Year 7 students at The Dorcan Academy achieved success this week, winning first place at an inter school competition, aimed at stretching gifted and talented students. The event involved competition between 8 different Swindon schools that each provided a team of their most able students.

The day involved each team of students working as a school team to complete a variety of challenges including a maths challenge, a robotics challenge, a mystery challenge, creative and physical tasks.

To achieve their success and first place, Dorcan Academy students showed teamwork, persistence and resilience to achieve a consistently excellent performance across all the activities.

Sherryl Bareham, Headteacher said “our ambition is for every single Dorcan Academy student to ‘Aspire to greatness’, and to achieve this we strive to tailor all aspects of school life to individual student needs. Enabling our most able students to participate, and excel in these gifted and talented days ensures that we are challenging our brightest minds’.
