STAFF at South Marston-based distribution firm DHL held a spring fair at the weekend to help bring radiotherapy to Swindon.

Gorse Hill Community Centre saw throngs of bargain hunters come along to sample the homemade cakes, play games and try their luck at the raffle.

Organiser Claire Cambridge, who has worked at DHL for the past 27 years, said: “We had a great day, the weather was fantastic and we had a lot of people through the door. It was such a lovely atmosphere we had lots of fun too.

“We sold out the homemade samosas very quickly and we did well all round on the day with raising money.”

The day’s events managed to bring in a very impressive £856 for Brighter Futures.

However, thanks to a similar fundraiser held earlier in the year, and DHL’s promise to match the amount raised, the total for both events was a whopping £2,583.

Claire said: “We were ecstatic with what was raised. We would like to say thank you to the public for supporting our spring fair and we hoped they enjoyed themselves.

“The raffle went down so well and everyone got on board by buying raffle tickets at work, which helped us raise a lot of money.

“We also owe a big thank you to work colleagues who sold raffle tickets for us in their own time.”

Families were treated to a whole host of fun activities. There were almost 30 tables offering a range of different knick-knacks and goodies and plenty of tasty refreshments.

Claire said: “We know the appeal has reached its half way target, which is great news for the town. But we must keep plugging away until Swindon gets its own scanner.”

So far £1,500,000 has been raised for Brighter Futures. The team is very grateful for every single donation and wish to thank everyone for their support. To donate you can send cut out and send in the attached form or log on to www.brighterfuturesgwh.nhs.uk.
