TWO show-stopping dancers are preparing to delight audiences in a professional production of Sleeping Beauty.

The performance will be presented by English Youth Ballet at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre in May and will feature two of Swindon’s most talented dancers.

Darcey Goddard, 13, of Peatmoor, and Lily Moore, 11, from Stratton, will be involved in what promises to be a sell-out show.

The ballet will star a host of professional dancers from all over the world and the girls are thrilled to be part of it.

Darcey, who goes to Royal Wootton Bassett Academy, said: “Rehearsals are really good fun because I enjoy learning new things. I’m really looking forward to the show, it’s going to be amazing. I’m a bit nervous because it’s very hard work and you have to put a lot of time in, but it’s going to be great.

“I really enjoy dancing and I can’t wait for the performance.”

English Youth Ballet (EYB) held auditions for the show at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre in March. More than 150 young hopefuls attended.

All the soloist and corps de ballet roles in the will be performed by dancers aged between eight and 18.

The young cast will rehearse for just 10 days for the production and Lily, like Darcey, is tingling with anticipation.

The Commonweal pupil said: “I really love ballet and I think this is going to be a great experience.

“Rehearsals are going really well at the moment and it’s great fun learning the routines.

“I’m really excited because it will be my first big performance and all my family will be there.”

Principal dancer Amy Drew will be dancing the leading role of Aurora. She is currently putting the young cast through their paces in rehearsals.

Amy said: “I enjoy getting to know the young dancers. It is wonderful having such talented young people all in the same place and working together.

“There is a unique and wonderful synergy that takes place because all the dancers learn so much from watching each other and from watching the professionals, too.”

The show takes place at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre from May 19 to 20. For tickets, call 0844 576 3000 or log on to www.bhlivetickets.co.uk.
