SCRAPPERS boxing gym was the grateful recipients of a new skirt for its competition ring last week thanks to a generous donation.

Hills Waste Solutions stepped in to help the community gym as it continues its work providing a low-cost fitness alternative for youngsters and people on limited incomes.

Managed by the Swindon Scrapstore, the gym is open to all members of the community of whatever age - as a charity its funds are limited and so when it purchased a second hand ring recently it was unable to pay for the skirt to go around it.

Hills already sponsors Swindon’s only female professional boxer, Kelly Morgan, who also coaches at Scrappers.

Kelly said: “This is a great community facility and I think so highly of Paul Rogers who runs the gym. I have met and worked alongside like-minded people, which is a very motivating experience.

“It is fantastic to see all people, irrespective of their differences, enjoying the sport of boxing. The support from Hills is fantastic - to have such an established Swindon based business supporting Scrappers Gym will only makes the community-based ethos of the gym stronger.”

Mike Hill, Chief Executive at Hills, was on hand last week to see the new ring skirt in all its glory.

Mike said: “I am really impressed with the fantastic community work at Scrappers Gym. The new boxing ring skirt looks very impressive and I am pleased that our donation has helped to improve the overall look of the gym for the many community groups which use it.”

He was joined by Olivia McCann, project manager for the Scrapstore and Scrappers Gym.

“Mike visited Scrappers earlier this year and was keen to show his support for the project and the fantastic work we do within the local community.

“The ring looks great with the new boxing skirt and helps to improve the overall appearance of the gym. It is great to have the support of such a well-known company in Swindon and we are extremely grateful for Hills’ donation.”
