PET owners are often accused of having some pretty barking ideas when it comes to treating their four-legged friends.

But shoppers at Swindon's Pet Shed have been getting the paws up for a new product designed to really include pets in all family gatherings and celebrations.

Pawsecco, a still wine for cats and dogs in both white and rose, hit the shelves just in time for the bank holiday weekend.

Hopes are that this will become the purrfect way for owners and pets to raise a glass together.

"On special occasions people can be tempted to do silly things with their pets, like giving dogs real beer," said Pet Shed owner Phill Wells.

"It's lovely to include pets in family celebrations but the drinks humans favour are not always very good for our pets.

"These drinks take away the temptation to do something silly and provide pets with health benefits rather than drawbacks."

Manufacturers Woof & Brew have just launched the non-alcoholic, non-carbonated Pawsecco which contains no grapes and is created with the advice of veterinary experts and has been taste-tested by dogs and cats.

The healthy, herbal infusions are made with 100 per cent natural herbs, using elderflower, nettle, ginseng & lime flower.

"It's still early days for the Pawsecco but we have been selling dog beer for over a year and that flew off the shelves at Christmas," said Phil, who is hoping the good weather will see sales rise at the shop at Studley Grange Craft Village as pooches and pussycats get the chance to join in the summer's alfresco events.

The ‘wine’ can be poured over food, making it the perfect ‘au jus’, or it can be served straight, as a drink,

The latest tipple for our feline friends and dearest doggies was launched at Crufts recently. The product received a high level of interest from visitors to the show and was tasted live on Channel 4 with Clare Balding, Alan Carr and Iwan Thomas.

Pawsecco also scooped Gold at PATS Sandown, one of the UK’s largest trade show, winning best new product in gifting.

The co-founders of Woof & Brew are Steve Bennett and Lisa Morton who brought their expertise and love of dogs together to launch an initial herbal teabag range for dogs and introduced dogs up and down the country to the benefits of a nice herbal cuppa.

They have since added a ready-made tonic version of the teas, Drinkies (infused, ready-to-drink doggy water for when owners and dogs are out and about) and Bottom Sniffer (a doggy ‘beer’).
