DAVID Howell failed to make the cut for the Shenzhen International at the weekend.

The Swindon ace looked to be on course to make rounds three and four in China after a two-under-par opening round.

Then on the Friday, before the rain set in, Howell was one-day for the day as he approached the 15th.

But when play resumed on Saturday morning, the 41-year-old got off to the worse possible start and carded nine on the par-four hole.

The two-time Ryder Cup winner failed to recover and dropped shots on two, eight and nine, while also claiming a birdie on seven to level him six over for the day.

Wiltshire’s Jordan Smith was also in action, and he had far more enjoyable stay as he finished tied 14th on with an overall score of eleven-under

Smith has now climbed up to 97th in the world rankings.
