A MAN who launched another series of attacks on the mother of his son has been jailed for about a year and nine months.

Lee Ryan, 42, was on a suspended sentence for assaulting the same woman when he breached a restraining order banning him from contacting her.

Ryan was armed with a knife when he went to her house the day after he had assaulted her, when he should not have had contact with her.

Rob Welling, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court that, despite the restraining order, the victim allowed him to visit her on Friday, January 13.

But Ryan, who has a history of domestic violence, erupted into violence when his four-year-old son referred to him as 'Lee' rather than 'daddy'.

Mr Welling said: "That made him angry. He became, once again, very violent. That violence was directed towards his former partner.

"It resulted in him spitting in her face, that spit had blood in it, and he also put his hand round her neck."

The following day she again called the police because he was outside her house just before midday.

He was at the rear patio doors and when the police arrived and searched him he was found to have a Stanley knife in his pocket.

In a victim personal statement she told how they had been together eight years which had been punctuated by domestic abuse.

She said there had been 17 separate incidents which involved the police being called since 2012.

Although she had tried to break away from him on many occasions he said he always managed to work his way back in to her life.

She said that she was close to having her children taken away from her by social services because of the domestic abuse.

After he was remanded in custody she said she was contacted by Bristol prison asking if her number was appropriate for an inmate to contact, which she assumed was him.

Ryan, of Booth House hostel in Spring Gardens, pleaded guilty to assault by beating, two counts of harassment and possessing a bladed article.

The court heard that the convictions put him in breach of a 16-week suspended sentence imposed by magistrates

Ryan has a long list of previous convictions, including possessing a bladed article, having an imitation firearm, and breaching a restraining order imposed relating to another partner.

Mike Pulsford, defending, said that she had agreed to him visiting her on the day of the first set of offences.

While he had the knife the next day he said he had not brandished it, but because he has a similar previous conviction he was face a mandatory jail term.

Passing sentence Judge Douglas Field said: "You put your hand round her throat and you spat at her.

"The restraining order was clear in terms and you breached it. The very next day you went round again and you were in possession of a Stanley knife."

He jailed him for 17 months, which will be served after he has done the 16 weeks of the suspended sentence, making a total of about 21 months.
