SHARING parents' special moments will never grow old for Great Western Hospital midwife Emma Heron, who has become one of the faces leading a new hospital campaign to attract the brightest and best to a career in the NHS.

Real-life doctors and nurses, along with physiotherapists, midwives and admin staff, have lent their faces to a set of eight new posters that highlight the diverse range of career opportunities available at the Great Western Hospital and in the community teams across Swindon.

Each poster shows a different member of staff with either a patient or others from their team with a slogan that captures what it is they love about their job.

It’s hoped this new approach to recruitment will get the message out to the people of Swindon and the surrounding areas that their local NHS is the ideal place to start, or even kick-start, their career.

The new posters, currently on display in and around the Swindon hospital, as well as at the Orbital Shopping Park, are backed up by a series of radio adverts.

This is the first time that Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has used a targeted multimedia approach to recruitment and it’s hoped the personal feel of the campaign will strike a chord with anyone who may have thought a career in the health service was not for them.

"Having always worked in healthcare, I can honestly say that it's a career I not only love waking up to each day, but one that has always given me the opportunity to grow and develop.

"I actually started out as a healthcare assistant, which turned out to be a great starting point as it made me realise just how much I enjoyed helping others," said midwife Emma.

"After a brief spell in the Armed Forces as an army nurse, my career took me back to the NHS where I worked as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department.

"This was fantastic but I wanted something more and I soon made the big decision to do something I'd always wanted to, which was to return to university and retrain as a midwife.

"From my very first day in the Delivery Suite, I knew I'd made the right choice.

"I love the challenging environment and working with such an amazing team of people.

"Sharing such special moments with parents is something I'll never grow tired of.

"There's a unique story behind every birth at the Great Western Hospital and I love being a part of each and every one."

Tomorrow: Aroon Masih, who works as a community intermediate care charge nurse
