Market manager Kardien Gerbrands talks about Swindon farmers' markets

WELL, we hope you all had a lovely Easter and I know the stallholders enjoyed a family Sunday at home for a change.

This week’s market will have a definite early summer feel to it as we welcome back Styan’s Family produce to the market. Styan’s will have all the seasonal goodies you would expect to find at this time of year with early season tomatoes, rhubarb and, just starting, fresh asparagus.

Also back this week Paget’s Produce will have the first of the year’s early season bunched carrots, grown in that “perfect for carrots” sandy soil at Bromham. Other abundant veg at the moment includes purple sprouting broccoli, leeks and winter roots.

It is all hands on deck at Hinton Marsh farm as the lambing season is well under way but they will still make time to bring their fabulous selection of free range meats and gourmet sausages to the market alongside their legendary barbecue and the whole hog roast which has become such a popular feature with customers. Some people are are even queuing up for the hog roast pork and not having it in a bun as is normal but taking it home to eat for their Sunday roast!

We also have a good selection of drinks with Newtown Estates bringing pressed apple juices and a selection of their wines, including a fabulous sparkling, and Beard and Sabre Cider Company with their range of bottled ciders. Come and see us this Sunday at the Swindon Designer Outlet from 10am to 4pm.
