AFTER successfully completing the Bath Half Marathon earlier this year, one of Brighter Futures’ fundraising stars is preparing for her next big challenge.

Thirty eight-year-old supporter care fundraiser Lisa Utting will pull on her running shoes and take on the Swindon Half Marathon in September, before attempting the Ride for Radiotherapy just a couple of weeks later.

Lisa intends to cycle a 70-mile route starting and finishing at the Great Western Hospital on Saturday, September 16.

But a determined Lisa, egged on by colleagues in the Brighter Futures office, has decided to do things a little differently.

If she can find a rickshaw before September’s challenge, Lisa has vowed to team up with the 80-year-old Queen of Brighter Futures, Jill Huby, and cycle 20 miles on the rickshaw with Jill in tow.

Lisa said: “We are trying to get hold of a rickshaw and if anybody has one they would like to lend us we would be very grateful indeed.

“We thought it would be a great way of getting extra sponsorship and it will be really good fun on the day.”

As well as the Bath and Swindon Half Marathons, Lisa, a keen runner, has previously completed routes in Reading and Milton Keynes.

But cycling is a different medium altogether, and she is very much looking forward to the challenge – though she admits she’s a little nervous.

“I don’t cycle very often,” she said. “I probably haven’t been on a bike since I was a teenager, so it will be a challenge for me.

“Running will certainly help, but I will have to step up the cycling training over the summer.”

Encouraging others to sign up for the Ride for Radiotherapy challenge, Lisa said: “The event is open to everyone, whatever their cycling experience.

“It will be tough, but we want people to feel they have really achieved something afterwards.”
