Phoenix Players Ladies Of Spirit Arts Centre
The spring play, written by Georgina Reid, is a tour de force for the ladies of the Phoenix Players company. It was a refreshing change to see a cast of all ladies. Nine to be exact and a new one for me. I hadn't seen this play before.
A stunning set of a school staff room in the sixties was well laid out and direction by Daphne Breakspear was excellent. The full stage was used at its best.
The play takes place in the staff room at Gibraltar School, Hartmouth, in the 1960's. It was a simple, but engaging comedy; and very funny it was too. It kept the audience amused throughout. This was down to the excellent writing, and also the characterisation given by the ladies of their different characters within the school.
It's at this point in a review where I pick out those actors or actresses who I enjoyed watching. This time out that would be a most unfair thing to do. They were all excellent in their roles. I enjoyed every performance from this talented company.
Lighting, music, sound and costume were once again very good and what I have come to expect from Phoenix.
This was another excellent play. Well rehearsed, well cast and very enjoyable. I won't tell you the plot because it would spoil it for any one who is going along to see it. The play runs until Saturday.
