IT only happens once a year so you might want to get to bed early on Monday so you can be up in time for the Dawn Chorus in Lawn Woods.

The festivities kick off at 5.30am and herald the start of the 24th Swindon Festival of Literature.

Minstrels and musicians, storytellers, poets and performers will all be there to welcome May Day and keep the crowds entertained.

As the sun rises over sleeping Swindon, join the early-birds high on a ridge in Lawn Woods and enjoy a hot cuppa and a bacon butty.

Jake the Juggler and his gravity-defying, fire-flinging friends will bring a touch of daring to the proceedings, while the Sun Arise Singers will share their delightful melodies. Storyteller Chris Park will tell May Day tale, Andria Walton will play the tin whistle and Music Alive will sing songs.

The event is free.
