AN ARTY student scooped the top prize in a national competition aiming to promote healthy eating in schools.

Jamie Davis, a year 10 student at Kingsdown School in Stratton, took home first prize in a nationwide art competition, which invited students across the UK to submit a food-themed design for Harrisons Catering Services' birthday card.

The 15-year-old beat out scores of other entrants with her quirky sprout-inspired design. The card featured two sprouts, the smaller of which is tumbling over.

She also incorporated a carrot and a leek into her Happy Birthday slogan, with organisers saying the design best fit their company values.

The card will be sent to all Harrison's employees on their birthday this year.

Jamie won herself an Ipad Mini, a framed certificate and a glass trophy which was presented by Harrison's joint managing director Gareth Harris.

For the school, she won a quirky Smoothie Bike which allows students to keep active by cycling on a static bike while simultaneously preparing a smoothie with a a blender mounted on the handlebars.

Headteacher Wendy Conaghan, said ‘We are incredibly proud of Jamie, it was a great entry and a deserved win. Many of our students were lucky enough to have enjoyed making the smoothies on the Smoothie bike, which was a lot of fun.”
