A TEENAGER has been handed an eight month detention order after stealing a motorbike.

The 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods after he was caught riding the bike at Kingsdown Woods on Sunday, April 30.

The bike had been stolen from a house in Swindon in December 2016.

He also pleaded guilty to riding while disqualified and breaching a remand condition of not being allowed to enter the borough of Swindon.

At Swindon Magistrates Court on Wednesday he was given a custodial sentence at a youth offenders institution for four months. Once released he will be required to carry out four months' reparation work with the youth offending team.

PC Leigh Vowles said: "This is a very good result. The custodial sentence is thanks to the hard work we do to actively target persistent offenders.

"Our work continues as we find those who are guilty of making the lives of innocent people difficult because of their selfish actions."
