Conservative candidate Justin Tomlinson outlines what he can offer the voters of North Swindon at this election:

It has been an honour to serve my fellow North Swindon residents as the MP for the past seven years.

I have made a concerted effort to be hardworking and approachable; having been voted as the third most helpful MP out of 650 by directly helping thousands of residents with different issues and concerns.

I also have one of the highest voting and speaking records in Parliament.

As a big supporter of our fantastic charities and organisations, I’ve helped raise over £125,000 for local causes, and my new community office has become a real hub of activity hosting over 100 different community events already in the past year.

Alongside Robert Buckland, I have worked to secure four additional new schools in Swindon delivering vital new places as well as additional funding for schools worth £4.3m thanks to the new fairer funding formula.

We have also joined forces with local healthcare professionals to increase NHS funding in Swindon, resulting in a 50 per cent increase to £127m by 2021.

We also worked hard to lobby both the Chief Executive of NHS England and the Secretary of State for Health to ensure that Swindon will receive a new dedicated radiotherapy unit at the GWH.

Championing Swindon is my utmost priority and we have helped to deliver £169m of government investment locally, as well as securing £7bn for the modernisation and electrification of the Great Western Mainline.

Swindon has seen strong business growth too, contributing to a staggering fall in unemployment of 57 per cent with 10,600 more people in work.

Nationally, only Theresa May has a plan for a stronger Britain and only she can deliver the stable leadership the country needs to see us through Brexit and beyond.

Our manifesto has outlined our priorities including an increase in NHS spending by a minimum of £8bn in real terms over the next five years, as well as an increase of £4bn to the overall schools budget by 2022.

To support working families, we will increase the National Living Wage, cap rip-off energy tariffs and increase the personal tax allowance to £12,500.

For those who have worked hard all of their lives, we will guarantee an annual increase in the state pension and we will deliver a social care plan to make the system fairer, better funded and more sustainable.

It is clear that the Conservatives are keeping our economy strong and supporting ordinary families.

Whereas Jeremy Corbyn will risk jobs, increase public borrowing and put our national security at risk.

Here in Swindon, I have shown with my record of action that I have the energy, enthusiasm and determination to make a difference.

I hope residents will give me the chance to continue.

KEY PLEDGES:

I will always champion Swindon, work tirelessly for fellow local residents and continue to be a strong voice in Parliament.

Support local business. I will continue working with local businesses to secure investment, regeneration and deliver new jobs.

Invest in schools. I believe passionately in providing opportunities for all so I will continue to deliver fairer funding for our schools through the £4bn increase in funding.

Invest in our NHS. By maintaining a strong economy, we can increase investment in the NHS by a minimum of £8bn in real terms as well as deliver parity of esteem for mental health.

Support working families. We will ensure that the National Living Wage is increased, taxes remain as low as possible and energy bills are capped.
