A former serviceman who tried to rob a woman at a cash machine over the Bank Holiday weekend has been warned he is facing jail.

Andrew Wilson pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted robbery when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

The 39-year-old drug addict, who is living with a friend on Woodhouse Road, tried to steal cash from a woman at a hole in the wall on Sunday April 30.

Richard Williams, defending, said that his client had seen active combat in more than one theatre during his time in the military.

As a result he said he suffers from post traumatic stress disorder and also drifted into using class A drugs after he was discharged from the forces in 2010.

The court heard that he was currently clean after going ‘cold turkey’ and not in work.

Judge Tim Mousley QC adjourned the case to Friday May 26 and released him on conditional bail until then.

But he said “All sentencing options will be open to the judge who deals with you and that includes and immediate sentence of imprisonment.”
