A LOCAL campaign group dedicated to fighting the "privatisation" of the NHS has invited people to attend a public meeting in North Swindon this week.

The Swindon branch of Keep Our NHS Public, a nation-wide movement formed in response to cuts in the health service, is to hold a roadshow event at Redhouse Community Centre on Wednesday night in a bid to drum up support.

Samantha Wathen, co-founder of the Swindon branch, said: "Following the demo for the NHS in London this March, we realised that there was no local division, so myself and another person decided to establish one.

"The NHS Roadshow is a national initiative established by NHS staff and campaigners with events running up and down the country.

"This promises to be interesting and informative with political candidates on hand to answer questions and talks from both the Peoples Assembly and a special guest national speaker, Dr. Rishi Dhir, who is well known to the media for his activism."

Samantha said the aim of the group is to "raise awareness about the plight of the NHS and help protect it through campaigning".

The event runs from 7.30pm until 9.30 and everybody is welcome.
