A BUSY Old Town roundabout is currently blocked after a car caught fire outside the Royal Oak this afternoon.

A burned-out Green Skoda could be seen at the scene on the junction of Newport Street and Devizes Road.

Two police cars and one fire engine are in attendance.

A passer-by who witnessed the incident said: "Two cars bumped into each other as they were coming round the roundabout (one was a Suzuki Alto with slight damage).

"The drivers got out and had a few words. Then, about three minutes later, the car burst into flames. I was expecting it to blow up at any moment, but luckily it didn't. Thankfully nobody was hurt."

Traffic is flowing but very slow along Devizes Road. The westbound carriageway of Newport Street is completely blocked. Police officers are directing traffic.
