FANTASY meets reality this weekend as the third Swindon Comic Con comes to town.

Thousands of TV and film buffs will flock to the Steam Museum for the two-day event, which celebrates the best of the entertainment and pop culture world.

Cosplayers, comic book fans and mythical creatures will have the chance to browse a selection of horror, anime and manga comics, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics and fantasy novels.

Particularly die-hard fans with a flair for costumes could win a spectacular prize with a £1,000 Stormtrooper outfit up for grabs.

A stellar line-up of 67 guests including Primeval stars Hannah Spearritt and Andrew Lee Potts, Harry Potter actor Chris Rankin, Oliver actor Mark Lester, Marvel and DC Comic book artist Lee Townsend and Gladiator Saracen will make appearances.

Luke Kaye, Comic Con organiser and the owner of Skywalkers Costume Hire in Faringdon Road, said he was looking forward to the weekend.

More than 2,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday alone.

He said: “It’s going to be amazing, magical, unbelievable, an out-of-this-world experience for everyone who comes along. Me and the team have been working non-stop to make it the best Comic Con we have had.

“There are more guests this year, more zones, we have a comic zone, a movie zone, even a princess zone with a carriage that children are going to love.

“There really is something for everyone whether it’s your first time at a Comic Con or you’ve been to hundreds.

“We are all really excited to see the reaction and hope that everyone has a fantastic time.”

As a warm-up to the main event there was a WWF Night of Legends dinner at the Marriott with pro wrestlers Brutus Beefcake, Bushwacker Luke, So Cal Val, Tugboat and Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Luke said he was particularly looking forward to the star-studded and glittering after-party due to be held at the Grange Drive Community Centre on Saturday evening

Swindon Comic-Con will be held at the Steam Museum on June 3 and 4.
