A MUM-OF-THREE from North Swindon is fed up with the overgrown grass by her home.

Mum-of-three Jo Rogers from Haydon End is one of several people who have complained to Haydon Wick Parish Council about the poorly-maintained grass in public spaces around North Swindon.

Her home faces out onto the path which leads to the Orbital Shopping Park.

She called the council twice after she noticed that the grass on the field next to the path has not been cut for months.

It’s become an unsightly nuisance for people strolling through the fields.

Jo said: “The grass is completely overgrown, we have a large area of green that hasn’t been touched all year.

“The parish council have taken responsibility but it’s not being taken care of.

“Kids cannot play in it, dogs are getting ticks, it’s a real state around here.

“When my two-year-old daughter Amelia walks through the grass, it goes right up to her chest.”

Clerk for Haydon Wick Parish Council Terry Powell wanted to reassure concerned residents that the council were well aware of the problem and it would be fixed soon.

He said: “The situation is that we had a change in contractor from April 1.

“They have experienced problems setting up and getting on with the work.

“We have put in place a plan which has brought in more workers and more resources, so in the next two weeks they should be up to speed.”

Jo added: “The council said they have been inundated with complaints.

“I mentioned it on a North Swindon facebook group thinking it was just the field by my house that was overgrown.

“Then other people commented on my post saying they were having the same issue where they lived..

“I didn’t realise it was such a big problem.”

Terry added: “We have had to rely on the contractors and it’s their fault.

“The improved equipment and additional workers will stay on at no cost after they’re back up and running.

“This means that hopefully we will soon see a marked improvement and it will be back up to the standard of last year.”
