THE Liberal Democrats brought a bit of colour and entertainment to the General Election campaign with a musical showcase in the town centre.

Dubbed Sex, Brexit And Rock ‘n’ Roll, the event saw old school rocker Peter Cook take to the streets of Swindon with his electric guitar to treat shoppers to a repertoire of Brexit-inspired anthems.

‘You ain’t seen Brexit yet,” he sang to the tune of the Bachman Turner Overdrive hit. “B-b-baby no you ain’t seen Brexit yet.”

Peter is not affiliated to the Lib Dems but is concerned about the vote to leave the European Union.

He is part of a group that dresses up and performs in protest outside Downing Street each week.

The music was intended to act both as a bit of fun and a hook to draw passers by in to speak to the two Swindon Lib Dem candidates.

Liz Webster, who is standing for the party in North Swindon, said on Friday: “I invited Peter to come here today. It’s something that gets people to think about politics as not just stale and boring.

“I went to a hustings in a church for example - it’s very controlled and only certain people are attracted to going.

“For a smaller party like us, in Swindon, this is an opportunity to get our message out.

“I think it’s one that really needs to be heard.”

Stan Pajak, Liz’s South Swindon counterpart, said: “It’s something a bit different. It’s quite obvious that people are getting a bit fed up with the election.”

He said that some voters were rallying to his party’s call on Brexit.

“I think if the Brexit vote was held tomorrow there would be a different result,” he said.

“People understand the consequences now.” We had that bus going round promising millions for the NHS - it was complete nonsense.

“People didn’t realise all that, there has been a change and we think there’s still a chance we can reverse it.”
