NYTHE Primary School staff and pupils have been beaming with joy this week after finding out that their SATs result success has landed them a top award.

The primary came out top of the class when the results for the town’s Year 6 pupils were released earlier this year with 81 per cent of pupils achieving the benchmark grade in reading, writing and maths.

The average figure for the town was 46 per cent compared to the national average of 53 per cent.

And now, in recognition of their dedicated efforts, Nythe Primary is set to receive a high achievement accolade at the Swindon Excellence Awards next month.

Headteacher Sally Clarke said: “We are delighted to be invited to receive this award, it is lovely for the children’s hard work and support from parents and Governors to be recognised in this way.

“It is nice to know that our focus upon individual learning needs has supported children to demonstrate their potential and prepare them for the next stage in their education.

“I am proud of the staff team and all the hard work behind this result. The individual progress of each child is far more important than an overall percentage figure.

“We are proud of the children in our school who have worked hard throughout the year.”

The school found out the exciting news after receiving a letter from head of education Peter Nathan last week, inviting them to attend the ceremony on July 13.

There had been previous concerns about the town’s attainment rate by Year 6 pupils in light of new assessment criteria changes brought in at the start of summer.

The more rigorous way of testing sees parents given their child’s score and whether it meets the national average as opposed to them previously graded on levels.

Sally added: “We have a very supportive and positive school community here at Nythe.

“We had a great celebration following our good OFSTED inspection in September 2016 and this award is the icing on the cake.

“We have places available for September so if you are interested in finding out more about our lovely school please contact 01793 524024 or admin@nythe.swindon.sch.uk to arrange a visit.”
