MAKING pupils aware of the importance of staying safe online has saw one Swindon school be presented with a prestigious award.

Rodbourne Cheney Primary School has been gifted the online safety award by 360 Degree Safe for all of their efforts at promoting e-learning and e-safety with students.

From making up e-safety songs in reception to creating scenarios for children to ponder over in the older years, the school has continually strived to put online safety at the forefront of their work and on Thursday, the school found out about the exciting news - much to the delight of the school’s e-safety ambassadors.

Assistant principal Clare Keeping said: “We decided to apply for the award because we are committed to keeping the children safe at home and at school while online.

“The feedback we received said we had many strengths including our community and parent engagement and getting them on board with e-safety so they can support the children at home."

“We see e-safety as a high priority and because of that, we have done all of these things towards this award.

“Our e-safety ambassadors are great and they have got a really important responsibility which they’ve taken on so well.”

To achieve the award, the school has done multiple activities over the last year including organising an interactive event with 150 parents to hear how they can help their children’s online learning at home.

To date, only 300 schools nationally have the prestigious award title for their hard work at teaching children about the importance of staying safe online.
