ABOUT 100 shoppers queued to visit Wilko when it opened its doors at Greenbridge Retail Park today.

Queues outside the new store started forming at 6.30am.

The first 100 customers received a £20 gift card, while shoppers enjoyed free strawberries and cream and a jazz band.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by Steven Goodrick, a representative from MacMilllan Cancer Support, and Wilko retail director Anthony Houghton.

Branch manager Chris Jones presented the charity with a cheque for £500.

This weekend, Wilko will also be hosting additional entertainment including a speed sketcher in store on Saturday.

There will also be a face painter in the store on Saturday, July 1.

Wilko Greenbridge branch manager Chris Jones said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local people.

"It’s a very positive start to our residence here at Greenbridge Retail Park and we can’t wait to welcome more customers to the new store.”

The company was founded in 1930 by JK Wilkinson with the aim of providing a huge choice of product at the best possible price combined with top customer service.
